motherhood journey.

St. Petersburg’s Top Chiropractic Care

As the body adapts to pregnancy, significant postural and biomechanical changes occur. The pelvis shifts, the sacrum bears increased load, and the ligaments supporting the uterus come under sustained tension. For many women, this translates to back pain, sciatica, pelvic discomfort, and disrupted sleep — experiences that are common but not inevitable.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy addresses the structural foundation of these changes. When the pelvis and sacrum are properly aligned, the nervous system functions more efficiently, the surrounding muscles and ligaments are balanced, and the baby has optimal space to grow and position for birth.

Our Approach at Atlas Chiropractic Center

Expert Prenatal Chiropractic Care

Dr. Johanna is Webster Technique certified, the gold standard in prenatal chiropractic care. The Webster Technique is a specific sacral analysis and gentle adjustment protocol that focuses on balancing the bones, muscles, and ligaments of the pelvis. It is non-invasive, drug-free, and designed to work in harmony with the natural process of pregnancy.

By restoring pelvic balance and reducing tension in the supporting structures of the uterus, the Webster Technique creates the conditions for optimal fetal positioning — which matters not only for comfort during pregnancy, but for the labor and delivery experience as well.

What to Expect

1

Initial exam and consultation

We begin with a full review of your pregnancy history, any previous births, your current symptoms, and your goals for this pregnancy and beyond. Understanding your full picture allows us to tailor care to exactly where you are and what your body needs right now.

2

Functional movement and posture assessment

We assess how your pelvis, sacrum, and spine are adapting to the demands of pregnancy. Postural shifts and compensation patterns are evaluated so we understand what your body is working with and what needs support. No X-rays are taken during pregnancy.

3

INSiGHT nervous system scans

We utilize nervous system scanning to assess the health of your nervous system objectively, measuring overcompensation patterns, heart rate variability, and tension. During pregnancy, this tells us how your nervous system is coping with the physical demands of carrying your baby and where targeted support will have the greatest impact.

4

Care that evolves with you

Dr. Johanna designs a care plan built around your trimester, your findings, and your birth goals. As your pregnancy progresses, the plan evolves with you. Your adjustment frequency typically mirrors your prenatal OB/Midwife visits. Your care is designed to provide you with the most optimal pregnancy, labor and delivery experience!

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Take a look at the FAQ or reach out anytime.

  • We are out of network with all insurance providers and we can give you a detailed receipt that you can submit back to your insurance provider for direct reimbursement. We also keep our office visits comparable to what your copay for a specialist is.

We intentionally choose to opt out of accepting insurance as insurance companies dictate the care you receive based on your coverage and sometimes they even hire third parties who have never met you or know anything about your case to determine how you should be treated. We work for you, not the insurance companies and we give you the care that you need so you can get the best results as quickly and effectively as possible.

We do not work with Medicare of Medicaid in any capacity, including supplemental insurance plans or out of network benefits.

  • Our goal is NOT to have you in the office all the time! If you are coming into the office with a specific structural imbalance, it is our job to recommend and provide you the most effective care, while still meeting you where you’re at with your availability and resources.

If you are in a pain cycle or have an acute issue that needs immediate attention, we start you off with the necessarily corrective care. In order for a sustainable change to happen, this takes time and consistency. Once you’re out of the pain cycle or we both see the physical and neurological improvements happening, you get to graduate from the corrective care to wellness maintenance. Yay!

We believe that chiropractic care is just like any other wellness self-care practices that you have, which are necessary to be consistent, in whatever frequency works for you, in order for you to continue in your optimal state.

  • Chiropractic care is incredibly diverse, we are not limited to just treating pain!

Through chiropractic care, we work directly with the nervous system. This is THE most important aspect of our practice.

The autonomic nervous system is responsible for all of our body’s processes that happen without us having to think about it. This includes both physical and emotional processes. When the nervous system is dysregulated, or out of balance, the body is not able to perform its physical duties properly or cultivate safety and emotional regulation.

When we are not emotionally regulated, this presents as: high stress levels, constantly scanning your environment for danger, heightened anxiety, the inability to process life events and feeling very low, stuck, disconnected and unresourceful.

This is what keeps most people feeling stuck in stress patterns, both physically and emotionally. When we can relieve and regulate the stress responses, the better your quality of life becomes, the less pain you have and the more functional you become,

  • An Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractor adjusts ONLY the upper cervical spine with the assistance of an atlas orthogonal instrument.

While we can and do adjust your Atlas (the C1, top cervical bone in your neck), we do not limit our adjustments to just this area.

Within our practice we adjust the full spine for numerous health benefits and effective postural healing.

  • At Atlas Chiropractic Center, we offer several different types of care depending on your goals, your initial exam & x-ray results, as well as your lifestyle, schedule and budget.

Dr Johanna will always share her honest care recommendations for your most optimal results. We understand that that larger care plans can be an investment. We do have different sized care plans as well as in house financing options and we also accept CareCredit.

CareCredit is a medical credit card that allows for you to extend your monthly care payments, without any additional interest, so long as you make your payments on time. You can learn more about this option here.

At Atlas, we are no strangers to investing in our health for the long-term. (Especially with holistic modalities that are nearly always self pay). Committing to your health, your longevity and the high quality life you dream of us an investment worth while. We are so grateful for you entrusting us with your care.

  • Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP) is a highly advanced, research-backed technique used to address structural weakness of the spine and improve it. This often presents as a loss of proper curvature in the spine. When there is a loss of curvature, the body overcompensates—causing muscular imbalances, nerve inpingements, inflammation and a disruption in the brain’s communication to the rest of the body.

By receiving corrective chiropractic care (CBP methodology), patients experience the most effective results chiropractic care has to offer, including long-term results, avoiding surgery and/or other medical interventions and symptoms relieved much faster than the common types of adjusting seen in other clinics.

Dr Johanna is one of a few, and the only female, in the Tampa Bay area who upholds her CBP certification.

You can learn more about CBP here.

Your body is doing something extraordinary. It deserves extraordinary support.

Whether you are newly pregnant, in your third trimester, or navigating postpartum recovery, we would be honored to be part of your care.
